Updated Roadmap for Microsoft .NET Web Development

On Scott Guthrie, VP of the Microsoft .NET Web Development Division , has released a new .NET Client Development (Web, WinForms, Other) Roadmap on his blog and he has some very interesting nuggets in there.

These are the main points of his posting, but please read what he says in detail. It's much clearer than anything that I could summarize here, and I am still trying to get my head around it all:

Improvements in the .NET Framework Setup for Client Applications
Improved working set and startup improvements for .NET Client Applications
Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) Improvements
WPF Control Improvements (Note that there is mention of a Microsoft built DataGrid, which is sorely needed)
Visual Studio 2008 WPF Designer Improvements

So when are SharePoint workflow forms (association,initialization,modification,task) design going to switch from InfoPath to WPF and/or Silverlight? The current confusing choice of InfoPath vs. ASP.Net forms is badly in need of a more seamless "meant for Workflow" design experience vs. the current "shoe horned" use of InfoPath rendered by ASP.Net approach.

That's a good quesiton and one that I don't have the answer to, at least not an answer that anyone will like.

Although AJAX is now supported in SharePoint, and I could build a form with AJAX in it, that's not quite SilverLight. I've seen, and I may have posted, some examples of people doing Silvelight within SharePoint, but they have been mostly web parts, if memory serves me correctly and not workflow forms. I suspect, but don't know "officially" that we won't see that kind of supported integration until the next version of SharePoint.

If I here anything officially on the subject, and am able to share it, I will be happy to do so.
